1. Choose where to sell
There's no single best platform — it depends on what you're selling:
- Vinted — everyday and mid-range clothing, no buyer fees, huge in Europe. Great for volume and quick sales.
- Poshmark — US-focused, social, strong for brand-name and boutique pieces.
- Depop — younger, trend- and vintage-led; aesthetic matters.
- eBay — the widest reach and the best search; good for branded, vintage, or hard-to-find items. See our eBay listing guide.
- Facebook Marketplace — local, fee-free, good for bulk lots and bulky items.
You don't have to pick one. Many sellers cross-list the same item on two or three to sell faster. We compare the fashion apps in detail in Poshmark vs Vinted vs Depop.
2. Photograph it properly
Photos are the single biggest factor in whether used clothes sell. You don't need a studio — you need light and a clean background:
- Shoot in daylight, near a window, with the light coming from the side.
- Lay the garment flat on a plain surface, or hang it against a clean wall. No bed, no floor, no clutter.
- Smooth out wrinkles — a quick steam or shake makes a big difference.
- Take extra close-ups of the fabric, the brand tag and any flaws.
If your background is still messy or the lighting is flat, that's exactly what an AI product photo generator fixes: Listly rebuilds the shot as a clean flat-lay while keeping the exact garment, colour and pattern. For getting the source photo right in the first place, see our product photography tips.
3. Price it to sell
Search the platform for the same or similar item and see what comparable pieces have actually sold for — not just what they're listed at. Price near the middle of that range if you want a reasonably quick sale, higher if the piece is rare and you're patient. Factor in fees and shipping so your take-home is what you expect. Listly suggests a realistic range from the brand and condition it sees; our pricing guide covers the full method.
Condition honesty pays. Describe wear, pilling, missing buttons or small stains plainly and photograph them. It builds trust, attracts serious buyers and dramatically cuts returns and disputes.
4. Write a title and description that get found
Buyers search by brand, item type, size and colour — so those words need to be in your title: "Levi's 501 Straight Jeans Women's W28 Mid-Wash Denim." In the description, add fit and measurements (chest, waist, length), material, and condition. This is the part sellers most often rush; Listly writes it for you from the photo so nothing gets left out.
5. Ship fast and communicate
Package neatly, post quickly, and send tracking. Fast, friendly sellers get better reviews, and good reviews get more sales. On the fashion apps, prompt shipping is one of the biggest drivers of repeat buyers.
Make the listing part effortless
Steps 2 and 4 — photographing and writing — are where most of the time goes, and where most people give up on a full wardrobe. Listly turns them into one step: snap the garment, pick "Clothing," and get a studio flat-lay plus a ready-to-paste title, description, price range and tags. A wardrobe that would take an evening to list becomes an hour, and every piece looks like it belongs in a shop.
